Health Coaching Part I: What is it?

Over the next 10 days I (Jesse) will be sharing a series on health coaching.

We live in an age of “information overload” where everything we could ever possibly want or need to know is immediately accessible right at our fingertips. We are inundated with information from advertisements, spam mail, social media… It’s overwhelming right? Now, let’s take that a step further: imagine, in this endless sea of information, trying to find the tools that will help you feel better and reach your wellness goals. It’s so overwhelming that we give up before we really start. So, in this age of “information overload” how do we weed through to find what is right for us? This is where a health coach can help.

What is a Health Coach?

As a health coach, I empower all clients who desire to reclaim their wellness through targeted lifestyle support and personalized nutrition-centered coaching. I teach clients the skills and tools they need to nourish their bodies and take control of their health all while supporting them in reaching their specific wellness goals.

What Does a Health Coach Do?

Think of a health coach like a personal trainer. You can read about exercise regimens online that might help you reach your fitness goals, but it will take you much longer to reach your goals and you run the risk of potentially injuring yourself attempting it alone. But, if you were to hire a personal trainer you’ll reach those goals a lot faster and stay much safer. Think of a health coach in the same way. You can attempt to make dietary & lifestyle changes or navigate your healthcare alone, but you may end up feeling frustrated or hopeless when you don’t see the results you want. Trust me, I’ve been there. I wish I had the support of a  health coach early on in my own healing journey. I know for certain that I would have seen a lot more progress much faster, rather than feeling frustrated, hopeless, and just plain lost for years.

Health Coaches DO:

  • Create a step-by-step plan to make dietary changes to support optimal wellness
  • Slowly implement lifestyle changes that support your goals
  • Help clients navigate the complex world of chronic illness
  • Help clients organize their health information and implement plans
  • Connect clients with the right resources and practitioners to support their health
  • Collaborate with the other members of a client’s wellness team to best support their health goals
  • Teach clients how to advocate for themselves & become the leader in their own healthcare
  • Support clients every step of the way & cheering them on as they reach their goals

Health Coaches DO NOT:

  • Treat or diagnose medical or mental health conditions

How Do Health Coaches Work?

Through telephone calls and video conferencing, I meet with clients where they are to make it easy and convenient. Changing what we eat and how we live are some of the most difficult (but most rewarding) things we can do to improve our health, so the easier I can make it the more successful clients will be.

Every client process begins with a free 15-minute discovery call. This is a time to chat about what services I offer and decide what would be a good fit for the client’s needs. After that, the client will fill out detailed paperwork to start with a 90-Minute Initial Consultation visit. During this visit, the client will get a thorough look into their health history, current health picture & nutritional status as well as have the opportunity to do any troubleshooting with me. I will also create a detailed, personalized nutrition-centered protocol together with the client to meet their goals. Once the plan has been created, I will continue to follow up with the client and provide support with 30-Minute Follow Up Visits to answer any questions and help troubleshoot concerns. Over the course of our time together, the client will also be filling out paperwork so we can have measurable data so the client can see their progress over time. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It is as unique as each and every client.

In response to COVID-19 all of my coaching services are 15% off with additional discounts available to those in select fields. If you’re interested in working with me, want to learn more, or are ready to schedule a discovery call, CLICK HERE. I’d love to chat with you!
