Happy day before Thanksgiving everyone! As I write this I am as happy as can be because I am warm and cozy, surrounded by my family and looking out the window at a fresh blanket of snow. I am also incredibly thankful to be able to enjoy a full Thanksgiving holiday this year, as last year I was working in retail and had to go to work immediately following our Thanksgiving meal.
Last year, I had just begun my AIP journey and my amazing family made almost 100% of our meal AIP Friendly. That being said it was a bit of a challenge to figure out. This year both my sister and I are following the autoimmune protocol and we now have a year of experience under our belt so planning the holiday meal was much easier.
We have a collection of people this year who range from having spent 80 plus years on the standard American diet to my mostly gluten free hubby to my mostly paleo parents to my sister and I. As a result our meal is going to include some non-AIP offerings but the vast majority is autoimmune protocol compliant. Some parts of the meal we have always enjoyed such as the Sauerkraut, which goes back to our German heritage, and the herb roasted turkey. The other elements have been adapted such as the stuffing and the cranberry sauce and this year’s newest addition is my creamy carob pie featured in the new Paleo Approach Dinner Club E-Book.
Here is our Menu:
Herb Roasted Turkey (sub coconut oil for butter)
Green Beans with Bacon
Slow Cooker Sweet Potatoes and Apples
Sausage Stuffing (remove nuts and sub coconut oil or animal fat for butter)
Sauerkraut
Deviled Eggs (Paleo)
Pumpkin Pie (Gluten Free)
